Today in the album of the day I bring the vinyl record that, according to my point of view, started what we know as Psychedelic Rock.

The Beatles album “Revolver”.

The Beatles had a lot of influence on me when I was a kid. When I was 7 years old, my father gave me a cassette with the Beatles and being the only cassette I had, I listened to it over and over again. To explain why I had only one cassette, I would have to tell the history of Cuba in the mid-1980s and that is not what this is about. Suffice it to say, I was lucky as a child to have a cassette and also the tape recorder to listen to it. Well, I listened a lot to that cassette where there were songs like “Taxman”, “Eleanor Rigby” and “Yellow submarine” when I was a child and of course, that has made that as an adult, when I started collecting vinyl records, I had several of The Beatles in my collection.

One of them is this one, the album “Revolver”.

The album “Revolver” is considered by me as the best album of The Beatles, of course, closely followed by the album “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”, I must make that clear 😉 . And, as I said before, I also consider it the album that in a certain way started what became known as Psychedelic Rock. In the year 1966 when the album was released, the themes of the moment were LSD. the Hippie movement and oriental culture and that shows a lot in the songs. Not counting all the post-production work in the studio, apart from the musical instrumentation, which is on the album, and the experimentation with electronic and ethnic instruments. For the time that was something new and it opened the doors to experimentation for many other bands that started at that time and later became well known.

And of course …

In the “Virgin All-time Album Top 1000 List”, written by Colin Larkin, this album ranks number 1!

The version of the album that I have is a stereo German version from 1969, released by the HÖR ZU label. This label is part of a German radio and TV magazine with the same name and is considered the label that has released the most Beatles albums in Germany. The disc and the cover are in perfect condition. I was lucky that this album was given to me by a roommate as a gift, means, it only cost me “to say thank you”. And it is a gift that I will appreciate forever.
